What are Stars?

Stars are enormous balls of burning gas, just like the Sun, but they are so far away that they look like tiny dots in the night sky. They come in different sizes, colors, and brightness. Some stars are blue and super hot, while others are red and cooler, even though they’re still very hot compared to anything on Earth!

Stars twinkle because their light has to travel through the Earth’s atmosphere, which makes it wobble like a candle flame in the wind. If you could get close to a star, you’d see that it’s not small at all—it’s massive and incredibly powerful, making it shine brightly even from so far away.
