The Moon is a big, round rock that orbits, or moves around, the Earth. It doesn’t make its own light; instead, it reflects light from the Sun, which is why it looks like it glows at night. The Moon changes shape in the sky because of how the Sun shines on it—sometimes it’s a full circle, and other times it’s just a small sliver, like a banana!
The Moon is also responsible for something very special called tides. It pulls on the water in the oceans, making the water rise and fall. That’s why you see waves and changing water levels at the beach!
