What is the Sun?

The Sun is a huge, glowing ball of gas that sits in the center of our solar system. It is made mostly of hydrogen and helium, and it’s super hot—so hot that you can’t get near it! The Sun gives off light and heat, which makes life on Earth possible. Without the Sun, it would be too cold for plants, animals, and people to survive.

You can think of the Sun as a giant lamp that lights up our days and helps plants grow by giving them energy. But be careful! The Sun is so bright that it can hurt your eyes if you look directly at it, so always protect your eyes when outside.
